Meet the Maker
Hi, I’m Alex, the maker behind Blue Carrot Designs. I fell in love with the process of indigo dyeing—the slow transformation, the subtle variations, the unpredictability, and the way each textile seems to find its own voice. My studios and my heart are split between the Georgia coast and Colorado’s mountains, with each landscape shaping my work. I am often joined by my two rescue pups, Johnny and Billie, as I dye, stitch, and experiment.

Through processes like Shibori, indigo and resist dyeing, clay and glue resist, and stitch work, I embrace slowness, transformation, and variation. Each textile is made with intention, patience, and care, reflecting the colors, textures, and quiet rhythms of the places that inspire me.

My Journey
Blue Carrot Designs began in high school, in my parents’ storage room basement, with my two best friends, Dory and Kat. We were inspired to make the prints we loved but couldn’t afford. In that tiny space, trying not to stain the floor blue, a creative spark took hold and has stayed with me ever since.
​
The name Blue Carrot blends playfulness with roots: blue for the indigo that stains my hands, carrot for the earth that fueled my adventures growing up. Together, they capture the balance of imagination, memory, and the natural world that inspires everything I make.

Every piece is still handmade in small batches, each textile unique and alive. I love creating textiles that can be used, worn, or displayed, pieces that invite you to slow down, notice, and connect. From Everything Cloths in your kitchen to hand-dyed, upcycled clothing, I hope each piece sparks a moment of joy and presence in your day.

The process of Shibori and resist indigo dyeing is deeply grounding for me. It’s a quiet, intentional practice that brings me back to myself. I hope that each piece of functional art you bring into your home or wear can be as grounding, inspiring, and restorative for you as the process is for me.
